Anything as a temporary distraction...

Time for an idea I just thought of, out of interest, and also to test the limits of Haloscan's comment system.

Everyone posts comments featuring a significant or interesting or random historical event in a year from the 20th century, in consecutive order. So I will start off with 1900. Then whoever wants to after that puts down something of their choice that happened in 1901, and so on. I doubt we'll get all the way through, but I will be interested to see what people come up with, and we can learn a bunch of interesting or possibly meaningless stuff. As you do. Jump in as often as you like, but try to avoid consecutive posts, and no more than one post per year.

Right then. Go for it.
